Arbourtech LaboratoryArbourTech is an Australian Red Cedar Diploid-Tetraploid ComparisonElaeocarpus Shoot Tip CulturesPaulownia plantlets in UPPSystemRed Cedar Apice Comparisonowned Plant Biotechnology company, specializing in the breeding and propagation of useful forest timber trees as well as valuable oil producing plant species. Located at Wongawallan in the gold coast hinterland is our purpose built, state of the art breeding facility

Over the Past seven years, we have perfected the art of creating polyploid plant species that show a number of interesting characteristics including: increased growth and vigour, gigantism of plant parts and increased resilience to adverse conditions. Ultimately we aim to provide forestry, bio-remediation and biofuel industries with improved polyploid genetics to further increase the advances conventional seed breeding techniques have made through genetic gain. Importantly, polyploidy is a naturally occurring phenomena, albeit very rarely, thus No Genetic Engineering is involved.

Tissue Culture

Through our unique Polyploid Process, vastly superior genotypes have been developed and are now being micropropagated through Plant Tissue culture. Micropropagation allows for large numbers of identical plants to be produced. With most of our plants, this is achieved through shoot tip cultures. Plants such as Paulownia and Elaeocarpus also have the ability to regenerate from leaf pieces making high frequency micropropagation possible.

The Ultimate Plant Propagation System (UPPSystem)

The Ultimate Plant Propagation System was specifically designed to provide the perfect environment for tissue cultured shoots to acclimate. This all in one system allows tissue culture environments to be simulated to allow the plants to grow roots and acclimate at the same time. This effectively reduces the amount of handling a tissue culture plantlet needs and reduces the time taken to get the plants sun hardened and ready for planting.

Species

Currently we are working on a variety of pulping, timber and biofuel plant species.

Growth tests and Genetic Analysis

Our own Laboratory growth tests between standard and modified Paulownia and Elaeocarpus clones have revealed that the modified clones are capable of growing 28% faster than the standard clones.  Extensive Independent tests have also been conducted by The University of Queenslands' School of Intergrated Biology.
